Handsome Dan is a distinctive stringed instrument created by master instrument inventor Bart Hopkin. It’s a zither with 14 strings, uniquely designed with a center bridge dividing them into two parts. What makes this instrument particularly intriguing is its magnetic pickup placed on one side of the bridge, while the strings are played on the other, using a slide or plectrum.
The result is a dreamy, ethereal tone with a floating and swelling sound that is unlike any traditional zither. The instrument has been meticulously sampled, capturing every nuance, including plucks, glisses, slides, and ambient textures. The close-miked samples are recorded in wide stereo, offering a rich, immersive soundscape. This instrument will bring unique timbres and a distinctive atmospheric quality to any production.
