Splice Originals: Hypnotic Guitar Explorations is a captivating collection by producer Ben Bromley, drawing inspiration from the fusion of ambient pop and psychedelic folk. With influences from artists like Bibio, TStewart, and Dustin Wong, as well as folk legends such as John Martyn, Linda Perhacs, and Elliott Smith, this pack offers a rich tapestry of sound.

Featuring a variety of fingerpicked, strummed, and resampled styles, the recordings primarily utilize two Japanese-made steel-string acoustic guitars—a 1983 Yairi and a 1971 Yamaha—alongside a 1968 Gibson Nylon, a 1919 Gibson Mandolin, and a felt-hammered zither. Each instrument is played in different tunings, creating a unique sonic palette.

Ben has crafted layered song starters using his voice and acoustic strings from Splice’s extensive multi-sampler library, complemented by new Astra presets. This collection includes MIDI and audio loops designed to inspire fresh beats, melodies, and songs, painting an ethereal soundscape.

Additionally, you’ll find a selection of crisp tonal and percussive one-shot chords, notes, FX, and knocks. Resampled guitar sounds are transformed into woody kicks, steely snares, 808-esque bass notes, and lush tonal hits, adding versatility to your productions.

All audio was expertly recorded using an XY pair of Beyerdynamic small-diaphragm condensers and a Shure SM-7B, processed through a UA Apollo x4. The sound was meticulously shaped using Ableton EQ and FabFilter ProQ3, with dynamic processing via Ableton Compressor, Glue Compressor, UAD Fairchild 670, and LA-2A plugins. Textural enhancements were achieved using Soundtoys Decapitator, XLN Audio RC-20, Valhalla SuperMassive, and more, ensuring a polished and immersive listening experience.
