Description
The Splice Originals team had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with the legendary John Medeski at the iconic Applehead Recording studio in Woodstock, NY. During this session, Medeski guided us on a sonic journey through the cosmos, skillfully using his collection of pedals to manipulate his signature sounds across a range of vintage instruments, including the Hammond B3, Clavinet D6, Wurlitzer 200A, Korg Delta, Arp Omni, Moog Taurus, Moog Sub37, electric piano, and Yamaha Grand Piano.
A master improviser and band leader, Medeski is equally at home with a Steinway grand or a Hammond organ. His extensive collaborations feature work with prominent artists like John Zorn, Phil Lesh, Don Was, Coheed & Cambria, Susana Baca, Sean Lennon, Marc Ribot, and Irma Thomas.
Classically trained and originally from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Medeski began his musical journey alongside the great Jaco Pastorius before studying at the New England Conservatory. In 2013, he released his first solo piano record, A Different Time, under Sony’s Okeh Records. Currently, he is working on new projects, including an album with his band MadSkillet (featuring Terrence Higgins, Kirk Joseph, and Will Bernard) and HUDSON, a collaboration with Jack DeJohnette, John Scofield, and Larry Grenadier. Additionally, a documentary on Medeski Martin & Wood is in the works, highlighting his remarkable musical journey.
