The Garifuna are an Afro-Indigenous community from the Caribbean, known for their rich cultural history and profound musical heritage. This sample pack highlights their most important ceremonial music, including the Dügü (healing ceremony) and Máscaro (masked dance of resistance). The Dügü music, led by a buyei (spiritual leader), uses maracas, chanting, and rhythmic drumming to invoke ancestral spirits and heal the community. Meanwhile, the Máscaro dance features aggressive, competitive rhythms that showcase the resilience and resistance of the Garifuna people in their fight for survival.
