Description
Antelope Island, the largest island in the Great Salt Lake, stands as one of Utah’s state park treasures. Spanning 42 square miles, this uninhabited desert island is celebrated for its diverse wildlife, including one of the largest bison herds in the nation, along with pristine ecosystems and breathtaking desert and mountain views.
However, the island has faced significant environmental changes. In the ’80s and ’90s, rising temperatures and snowmelt caused the surrounding lake to flood, isolating the bison and other wildlife on small mini islands for decades. Today, the salt flats have dried so much that Antelope Island is no longer an island. The Great Salt Lake itself has drastically shrunk, with salinity levels now exceeding those of the ocean.
In an effort to preserve the island’s unique audio landscape, a group of Splice producers and musicians ventured to this delicate ecosystem to capture its sounds before they might be lost forever. The resulting pack features natural ambiances and field recordings, alongside percussion crafted by renowned drummer Brian Rosenworcel, who utilized rocks, wood, and elements of the surrounding nature. The collection is further enriched by the majestic vocals of Kathryn Shuman, recorded in caves and natural reverberant spaces throughout the island.
Explore these extraordinary sounds in your productions, capturing the essence of a landscape that may never be the same again. This pack not only serves as a creative resource but also as a tribute to a precious and changing environment.
